Did you say Roy Ayers documentary!?!? Sounds good to me!

I have loved me some Roy Ayers for as long as I can remember. Well lets just say the first time I heard "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" as a child. But alas that was not my favorite song. That song was called "Good Vibrations". Lucky for me my cousin had been Roy's drummer on and off for 20-30 years. So when Roy came to Philly and I went to see him at Zanzibar Blue and he DIDN'T sing my favorite song during his set, I told him after the show and he gave my own private show singing my favorite song. A man of his 70's now he still hasn't missed a beat and he still gives one of my favorite live shows. Check him out in this preview to his documentary where he mentions working with The Roots, how he met his wife and tells about the country where the xylophone is the official instrument....

Spike Lee does it again...this time with a little Michael Moore feel

He set out to do a follow up documentary on his HBO doc, "When The Levees Broke", but between the BP debacle, an earthquake in Haiti and police corruption in the N.O., well lets just say his direction had to make some necessary adjustments. Thanks for your truth Spike....

Solange puts me on to something new and I like it (video)

Anybody who knows me knows that I loves me some Solange and one of the things I love most about her (outside of the music) is watching her journey and evolution. There are some artists that you not only pay attention to their music, but also to the things they do and like. She is one of mine. Anyway, I stumbled onto this video from the Jimmy Fallon show last week. Its Solange performing with this group called "Of Montreal" and I really dig it and the song. I mean with a hook that says "you look like a play ground to me PLAYA!" and an 80's "Breakfast Club" feel, how could you go wrong? So Bravo Solange! I can dig it if no one else can! Score 1 for us weirdos!

PS
Lovin the new East African influenced style!

This Essence debate gets real

Check out my girl (in my head) former Fashion Editor, Michaela Angela Davis on CNN with Anderson Cooper. Funny because I always thought it was cool that her name was Angela Davis, she resembles Angela Davis and she works at Essence or worked.../-:
She raises some good points, but alas Essence is owned by Time Magazine so do they really care? I know I do! I knew something was suspect when they put that wig on Janet!
