Philly Celebrates Black Music  Month!
In 1979, the legendary Kenny Gamble, of Philadelphia International Records, founded Black Music Month, a month-long celebration of the diversity of African-American music. We invite you to jam with us in June and throughout the year with live shows, some of the world's best DJs and other events you can only find in Philly.

June 5 — The Roots Picnic
Join Philly's favorite hip hop-band for a day-long music festival with Vampire Weekend, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Clipse, Nneka, Jay Electronica, Raekwon, Method Man and Ghostface of the Wu Tang Clan and more, with special guest John Legend.

June 8 — Erykah Badu w/ Janelle MonaĆ© and Bilal
Soul siren Erykah Badu and special guests Janelle MonaƩ and Philly's own Bilas shut down Philly for an epic performance at the Tower Theatre.

June 8 — Dee Dee Bridgewater
Tony® and Grammy®-award winning singer Dee Dee Bridgewater channels incomparable jazz vocalist Billie Holiday in a special tribute concert at theAnnenberg Center.

June 13 — Odunde African American Festival
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Odunde Festival brings together the best of food, and art and crafts of the African Diaspora, including performances by African dance troupes, hip hop artists, soul singers and more.

June 18 — Sound of Philadelphia Celebration at The Phillies
Be a part of the seventh annual Sound of Philadelphia Celebration when thePhillies host the Minnesota Twins at Citizens Bank Park. Festivities include performances, family entertainment and the announcement of the 2010 Phillies Gamble & Huff Community Partnership Award recipient. June 18-20 — West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival
With a New Orleans theme, this year's FREE fest includes performances by George Duke, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Al Jarreau and hot newcomer, Esperanza Spalding, as well as a curated art pavilion, specialty foods, vendors, children's activities and more. BONUS: Catch the Hidden Beach Recordings' night on Friday, June 18 at the Jazz Hang Suite at Relish Restaurant. Philly artists Jaguar Wright, Jeff Bradshaw, Kindred the Family Soul and Carol Riddick will perform at this ticketed event.

June 19 — Jill Scott & Maxwell
Philly's own crowned jewel, Jill Scott, spreads lyrical love along with sultry singer Maxwell at the Wachovia Center.

June 22 — Opera From a Sistah's Point of View

June 27 — Inside the Studio
Join Black Music Month founder and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Kenny Gamble for an intimate conversation about Philly's musical heritage and a tribute to The Sound of Philadelphia.
